California Rep. Brad Sherman officially introduced articles of impeachment Wednesday to get the ball rolling on forced to watch sex videosousting Donald Trump from office--but this is just the first step in a long, hard, and unlikely journey.

Sherman's tweet stirred up Twitter with more than 6,000 retweets and thousands of comments. Some already started popping Champagne and celebrating what could be the 45th president's early dismissal. Others were there to rain on their parade.

"I am introducing Articles of Impeachment to begin a long process to protect our country from abuse of power, obstruction of justice, and impulsive, ignorant incompetence," Sherman wrote.
But actually passing the article will be nearly impossible as long as Republicans have a majority in the House.
If somehow it did pass, two-thirds of the Senate (also controlled by Republicans) would have to vote to remove Trump from office.
Even though the impeachment article was filed Wednesday, just a day after Donald Trump Jr.'s emails were released definitively placing him at a meeting last year with a Russian lawyer who promised dirt on Hillary Clinton, Sherman put out a draft of the impeachment article last month. That was well before the most recent Russian drama unfolded. But it's still pretty good timing ...
At Wednesday's off-camera press briefing, Sarah Huckabee Sanders called the impeachment article "utterly and completely ridiculous" and a "political game at its worst."
Even if the Trump administration isn't taking this seriously, it's really happening. But Sherman acknowledged that the filing is "the first step on a very long road." He wrote he's optimistic that "if the impulsive incompetency continues, then eventually—many, many months from now—Republicans will join the impeachment effort."
