Finally.
Twitter announced early Tuesday morning that,Watch Project X Online at long last, users will be able to search their direct messages. Well, at least someusers, anyway. That's because the latest feature isn't available to everyone.
"Get your search on," wrote the company. "DM search is rolling out to everyone on iOS today."

Hear that? That low roar slowly building into a piercing shriek? That's the sound of a million Android devotees screaming in agony.
Back in August, Twitter released a video showing what the new functionality might look like. Notably, that version allows you to search for "people and groups," but apparently not the content of DMs.

It's unclear if today's update also allows for searching the textof direct messages. At the time of this writing, this author (who has the latest version of Twitter on iOS) is only able to search for people and groups.
