One of the fires in Napa County burned more than 40,000 acres. Another nearby fire, the Tubbs Fire in the heart of wine country, killed 11 people, making it the sixth most deadly fire in the state's history, according to state fire officials.
At least 3,500 homes and businesses, including wineries, were lost.
But despite the bleak numbers and charred landscape, tiny moments of hope and love made it through.
