It’s not all suburban-mom rages for Madeline, though. She’s also kind, sorrowful, transgressive. It’s a complex character, and Witherspoon’s is a truly full-bodied performance. Between this and Wild, Witherspoon and Vallée have a good thing going. They should stick with one another.
