It's not just Ranney (and Reddit) that's noticed the issue, though. Our own Adam Rosenberg has his head down in awkward animations right now, playing the game for review. A quick search on Twitter reveals many other early players discussing whether or not the goofy animations even bother them.
There are more analytical takes on the situation, too. Like this video from YouTube user xLetalis, in which he explains that the awkward animations have actually been a topic of conversation since a few months ago:
